Potton United claim an important threee points

Potton Uunited won a well-deserved three points after beating Sawbridgeworth Town 2-1.
It also means that in February Potton were undefeated in four league matches—winning two and drawing two.
For this match Potton were without Henry Moriarty (injured in the Colney Heath match), Matt Gilbert and Jack Moriarty (both away), They introduced Josh Cross a new signing from Baldock Town.
They also welcomed back Peter Murphy who had played a couple of games at the start of the season. He went to the USA and had to get international clearance when he went to the States and then had to get international clearance on his return to this country.
Potton made the start they wanted when Peter Murphy, newly returned from his extended visit to the USA passed the ball to Reece Crowter who took it round the defender to score with a fierce shot. This gave Potton the encouragement they needed and from a long throw in Eddie Connolly fired over the bar. From a Ryan Lamond free kick Elliott Powell headed narrowly wide.
Soon afterwords Ben Holmes provided the tackle of the match when he blocked Inces’s shot from close range that eventually went for a corner. Lamond had a run and his shot went just wide of the post.It was an even flowing match and Grant saw his shot saved by Alex Desmond before a free kick from Garrod sailed over the bar.
In the 38th minute Potton increased their lead when Connolly played the ball into the 6 yard area and Nikolay Rusev managed to get the final touch as the ball went into the net. Sawbridgeworth fought back with Ince firing high and wide and Garrod ran into the penalty area and had an appeal for a penalty turned down by the referee and was shown a yellow card for diving.
The start of the second half was the worst possible for Potton as they left Phelps unmarked who passed to Grant to score from close range. Murphy had a shot that went over the bar. Sawbridgeworth had a spell of attacking with Toner shooting wide following a corner, Yildiz shooting well wide, and Garrod shooting well wide.
The ball was played into the Potton penalty area and first Grant saw his shot blocked and this was followed by clearing by Powell before Leggatt could get his shot in.Soon afterwards Toner was shown a red card for a dangerously high tackle on Eddie Connolly who had juggled the ball with his head.
In the final moments Connolly shot high and wide. After 5 minutes of added time the referee blew the final whistle and every Potton player had given their all in this match to secure the win.
