Local bus driver wins praise for response to medical emergency
“It’s moments like these that remind us that our job is about much more than driving a bus”
A Driver from Bedfordshire’s biggest bus operator, Stagecoach East, has been recognised for his calm and compassion in responding to a medical emergency on his bus.

A passenger on Michael Wenn’s bus fainted and he rushed straight to their assistance and supported them throughout, providing reassurance and care when it was needed most. He also made sure that his other passengers were kept informed and remained calm until the passenger recovered.
He has received a commendation and Amazon voucher, from the bus operator, as a result of his actions.
Lewis Freemantle, Duty Manager at Stagecoach East, said: “It’s moments like these that remind us that our job is about much more than driving a bus. Mick’s quick actions, professionalism and genuine care for a passenger in need were outstanding and are a credit to both himself and the company.”
Darren Roe, Managing Director of Stagecoach East, added: “I am very grateful for Mick’s quick thinking in a difficult situation, which ensured that a vulnerable passenger was kept safe. This demonstrates the vital role that bus drivers play in our region.
“Buses are the lifeblood of our communities, providing a lifeline for many and keeping people moving. As a bus driver, you ensure people can access work, education, essential services, and visit their friends and family. Without the dedication of our drivers, engineers, presentation and support teams, none of this would be possible.”
