Gravenhurst Academy kicks off Joe Wicks' School Tour
“It was brilliant to visit Gravenhurst Academy and see so many children and teachers getting involved”
Gravenhurst Academy was proud to welcome fitness guru Joe Wicks earlier this term, becoming the first school to host a visit, as part of his 2026 School Tour.
The small, rural village school, which is part of the BEST Academies, was selected from more than 8,000 schools that had applied to take part in the tour.
Behind the visit, which took place on the 28th September, was a special story. One of the school’s governors contacted Joe to nominate their school, after their son, a pupil at Gravenhurst, had been using Joe’s workouts to support his recovery from an illness. Touched by their story, Joe took the time to meet the pupil and his family before joining the children and staff for an energetic workout session and ending with a Q&A.
Executive Principal, Debbie Randall, was delighted with the visit, “We were thrilled to see Joe Wicks at Gravenhurst Academy! It was inspirational for the children and staff, and I hope it will enthuse our children to continue to do even more physical activity!”
Throughout the visit, Joe Wicks showed a genuine interest in the school community, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
Joe Wicks said; “It was brilliant to visit Gravenhurst Academy and see so many children and teachers getting involved. I’m a big believer that exercise should be fun and accessible for everyone, and hopefully the session gave the children a boost and encouraged them to keep moving and being active at home too.” (Joe Wicks)
The excitement was shared by pupils and staff alike. Seven-year-old Theo said: “I felt energised and excited to meet Joe!” Six-year-old Mabel added that she felt “happy and excited to meet the man from Activators!”
Thank you to Joe for visiting Gravenhurst Academy, sharing your enthusiasm and tips for keeping active and, of course, for creating special memories for the children.
